WARNING: CONTANS DIGITAL LANE SPOILERS
Digital Lane Bosses Confirm Helicopter Crash
It has been confirmed by the soap opera Digital Lane’s bosses that the upcoming stunt for the anniversary week will involve a helicopter crashing into the new restaurant on the business district, sparking chaos and destruction for many residents of Digital Lane as everyone’s lives are turned upside down and lives are hanging on the balance
Find out more in an exclusive interview with executive producer SoapAddict, who discusses the past 12 months of Digital Lane and the upcoming stories for the anniversary month.
What made you come up with the idea of a helicopter crash for a stunt?
Well first and foremost, we wanted to do an original stunt that hasn’t been done before on Digital Soap, so that meant things like car crashes and explosions were immediately ruled out. At a story conference up in Edinburgh with the team we had a few ideas thrown about, one that we are planning to use sometime next year as I think it would be a missed opportunity not to do it, however it didn’t fit the storyline for our November stunt so we opted to go with out other main idea, a helicopter crash.
Who is involved in the stunt and can you give us any story details leading to the stunt?
I’m not saying much at this point, however the whole cast has a role to play in this stunt, every single person is either in danger themselves or has someone they love in danger. On the night of the crash, everyone is there at the wedding reception of Christine and Ryan, so it’s a major event that doesn’t run smoothly at all much to Amelia’s horror! We will realise a lot more story details before the anniversary week, however most of it will unravel on-screen this month, just how I like to do it.
When did you begin filming the stunt and how long did it take?
We have actually just finished the filming last weekend, it took around 2 weeks to film the whole stunt from start to finish, there were a lot of night shoots involved and some fantastic acting from the cast involved in the stunt, which is basically everyone!
The question on everyone’s lips is will you be killing anyone off in this stunt?
My lips are sealed! But let’s just say…everyone’s life is going to be changed as a result. Ironically, the helicopter that crashes is an ambulance helicopter! That may be some sort of clue but you'll have to work that one out on your own.
Will there be a promotional campaign for the stunt?
Yes we're currently planning our biggest promotional campaign since Jack's death adverts and posters, so we are really going all out.
How exciting is it to be approaching your first anniversary of Digital Lane?
It is absolutely thrilling, it’s been such a fantastic year for me and I can’t wait to top it all off with a week full of excitement, drama and edge of your seat viewing. Digital Way has just done a fantastic job of their first anniversary so we have a lot to live up too and hopefully we can pull it off. I never expected to reach a year of Digital Lane when I began writing it in November 2013, it’s gone so fast it only seems like yesterday since Abby faked her own murder!
What are your highlights of all the episodes produced over the year so far?
For me, one of my main highlights is ‘Murderer Andie’, it was just such a thrilling story to produce and it really got people talking about Digital Lane, which is what we wanted to achieve from the beginning. Other highlights have been Jack’s death, The Digital Lane Riots which won us an award at the Digital Soap Awards in July which was fantastic for us, Rose’s death has been another main highlight. The Ryan, Christine and Amelia dynamic is also one of my favourite things about Digital Lane, as well as the lovely Bolen’s. Janice’s cancer storyline despite being quite recent is another highlight, the way it’s brought the Goldburn family together is just fantastic and emotional at the same time…there’s plenty more to come from that story as well as the domestic abuse story, the Goldburn’s are definitely ones to watch over the next year or so. Hopefully the helicopter crash also becomes a highlight when it airs, but I’m sure the viewers will enjoy it as they are in for a treat.

Digital Lane Bosses Confirm Wednesday Episode Axing
After much speculation from fans of Digital Lane and various newspapers, it has been confirmed today (17 October) that Digital Lane's midweek episode will be pulled from schedules following the Digital Soaps 1st anniversary celebrations. Digital Lane Exclusive: Natalie Anderson Announces Departure
Natalie Anderson (Christine Walker) has announced her departure from Digital Lane after just under a year in the role. Anderson, who has played Christine Walker since November 2013, decided not to renew her contract with the soap. She briefly spoke to DigiSoap about her departure:
'Digital Lane has been such a fantastic experience and Christine Walker has been a thrilling and exciting character to play. I have worked with some of the best people I could possibly ask to work with and I am sad to be leaving the show when it's on such a high. By the time Christine departs on-screen she will have been there for a year and that's a pretty good achievement if I say so myself. I decided to not renew my contract on the show for a few reasons, with one being that I just need a rest and so does Christine. I've not been told how she leaves yet, but I'm sure it's going to be brilliant!'
Natalie Anderson will film her final scenes in October at the end of her contract, with her final scenes airing in November. Bosses are keeping tightlipped on the nature of her exit until a later date. Viewers will know her character is currently engaged to Ryan Bolen (Michael Parr) however whether she will make it down the aisle remains to be seen.

Digital Lane Confirms Domestic Violence Storyline
Digital Lane bosses today (August 11) have confirmed that they will be exploring the sensitive and serious issue of domestic violence in relationships. Ciara Goldburn, played by Sarah Solemani, has been confirmed to be the sufferer at the hands of Alex Carter, played by Jordan Young. Viewers have already seen strange and confusing behaviour by Ciara in recent episodes, despite how young her relationship is with Alex. Solemani commented on the storyline to DigiSoap:
"I am thrilled to be handed such a massive storyline by the producers. It's definitely one of the most challenging things I've done and it's been taken quite slow so far on-screen. The storyline will last for quite a long time to go as we wanted to do it in a realistic time frame, we've already seen Alex controlling her more but it will begin to get more serious later on this year. I can't reveal too much but it will definitely be a turning point for the Goldburn family unit."
Digital Lane have worked with numerous domestic violence charities such as 'Women's Aid' to make sure that the storyline is portrayed realistically and accurately as possible.

It becomes apparent that Andie came back to the UK for much more than just a quick visit to see Elaine. This is Chapter 2 of Andie's story, prepare yourselves."
When asked about how long she is back for, she replied: "I've been instructed not to say a word about how long I will be back for sadly! It may be a few episodes, it may be long-term, you'll need to wait and see!"

The expansion will take place on the business district as a further shake-up takes place. A new hairdressers set will be introduced, along with a corner shop set. 'Have Your Cake' owned by Sandy Foster (Kay Purcell) will be demolished in June, to make way for a new upper class restaurant. The final change will see a new block of flats introduced on the business district, allowing more people to live off of the lane, and in the new flat sets. SoapAddict said of the expansion:
'I am relieved that our plans for our set expansion has been commissioned, it's been in the pipeline for a while and I'm glad we finally have sealed the deal. Fans have seen a few changes with the business district over time, with the new bar Minerva being the main change. The expansion to the set will allow us to explore our character's business minds, and how they will cope with the pressure of their own business. I'm most excited about the upper class restaurant, it's something I think Digital Lane has been missing, yes we have the Ivory Pond Cafe, but I wanted somewhere where our characters could wine and dine in the evenings. The set expansion is very exciting and I can't wait for the fans to see it!'
Work on the new sets and expansion is expected to begin next month, and conclude in June, making it's first appearance on-screen in August after the summer break. Bosses have apparently come up with a stunt which will allow the set to expand with ease and it will become barely noticeable that it has been expanded. Fans will notice a few hints to the new sets over the next few months, as various characters mention it in their conversations. Digital Lane continues Monday at 7pm.

Zoe Lucker Confirms Digital Lane Return
It has been announced, via Zoe Lucker's twitter, that she will be reprising the role as Susan Cole for a two episode stint in May, to coincide with Eric Richard's departure as Jack Cole, who will be killed off in emotional scenes. Zoe has filmed her 2 episode stint already, saying that she would be open to making the role more permanent in the near future.
Viewers last seen Susan Cole as she left Digital Lane after making amends with her daughter Frankie (Wallis Day) and ran over Daniel Taylor (Scott McGregor) during her exit scenes. Viewers will see Susan come back in May to coincide with her father's death. She has settled down in Liverpool, however when tragic events occur, Susan makes a return to the place she once called 'home'.
A spokesperson from Digital Lane was unavailable to comment. This is the first announcement regarding Jack Cole's death, with much more to come.

Eric Richard Leaves Digital Lane
Eric Richard, who plays fan-favourite Jack Cole on Digital Lane, has announced his departure from the show on BBC News. During an interview about his time on Digital Spy's Digital Lane, he announced that he has decided to leave the show due to his health.
'Leaving the show is the last thing I wanted to do. I've had a fantastic time there and met some lovely people, like my on-screen family Ann and Wallis. I will miss it, however I feel it's for the best as I am struggling to keep up with the demands of a soap opera filming schedule. I come home from work and go straight to bed then the next day I'm up again doing it all over again, it's hard work. I have enjoyed my time on the show and I wish it the best for the future, however now is the right time to bow out from the show.'
Eric Richard's final scenes will air in May 2014, and it is confirmed he will be killed off in emotional circumstances.

Digital Lane Bosses Announce Late Night Special
Digital Lane executive producer SoapAddict has announced a late night special, airing in the week 7th April - 11 April 2014 for five nights. Bosses hope that they show will allow them to explore more darker issues that are normally taboo within the real soap world. The show will see the long-running story line 'Digital Lane Strangler' be resolved as the younger group head off on holiday to Lake Plasma. The subplot will see Andie Marcello (Dani Harmer) go to great lengths to keep her secret safe. As previously announced, someone will die at the hands of the Digital Lane Strangler, so SoapAddict has teased to expect the unexpected. If successful, Digital Spy will commission a second series to air in Summer 2014.
